Over the past few months, I have been working with Cooperative Innovations, as part of my participation in the Metalogues project. Last weekend, I visited Thessaloniki to take part in the presentation of the final projects at the Thessaloniki International Fair.
My work "Etude for Virtual Space" is an interdisciplinary virtual reality project integrating music and visual design. Four musicians of a string quartet are placed in a virtual environment which the users can navigate to experience interactive sounds, shapes and colours. The music is based on a collection of sound spectra that stretch, compress or overlap gradually transforming into one another. Musical parameters such as pitch, duration, dynamics and spatialization are mapped to provide visual effects over and around the musicians.
The experience was attended by some 500 visitors during the three days of the exhibition (29 September - 1 October 2022). I was fascinated by the audience’s vivid reactions while exploring the virtual space and their interaction with immersive technologies.
I would like to thank the Goethe Institut of Thessaloniki and Sotiris Stampoulis for their amazing work in organizing the project.
